You cannot begin to understand my joy at finding this remake (is that what's it's going to considered? Obviously it has features Ultima IV never had but is it still considered a remake?)! I can only wait earnestly for you to release a beta of this game!!! Any idea of a timetable for a possible release?

Features::

-Is there going to be a toggle for First Person View mode when you're using a bow, or similar ranged weapon? (With a targeting cursor is what i'm getting at, at this time i don't remember if morrowind has one...)
-Crossbows!?!?!
-Expand on the skills in ascension?
-Maybe quests will flow better? Ultima was kinda' choppy.
-Less 'Cheats?'
-Shurikin (sp)?
-Darts?
-Other D&D type weapons?
-Magic system easier?
-It was a bit of a pain before... (magic system)
-an easier to understand journal format? (kind of like the one in morrowind!

Kudos::

I think it is positively amazing that you guys are doing this. I've seen the screenshots I simply refuse to believe you're using the MW engine, MW is put to shame by the graphics you guys have come up with. Bethesda should be ashamed of themselves for what they gave us in MW. KUDOS!

Welcome Dragonegger the 2nd! Smile

It's not exactly a remake because the goal of the project is to create an *alternate* Ultima IX which will satisfy long time Ultima fans. So we will not use the same story "Ascension" had. (look around in the forums a bit and you will find tons of info about that)

To your questions:

1.) you can switch between 1st and 3rd person whenever you want, no automatic switch when using bows tough.

2.) yes!

3.) definitely

4.) I sure hope so

5.) if you know the scripting system in MW I am afraid you could cheat a lot

6.) not yet

7.) not yet

8.) tons of weapons so I am sure D&D fans will be happy too

9.) hmm, well actually it will be quite complex - parts will be easier (than in Ascension) and other parts will be quite "creative"

10.) yep

@Kudos: Thanks! We put a LOT of effort into creating textures and stuff like grass to create a world that doesn't look like it has been randomly stuck together.

In defense of Bethesda I have to say tough that they had to create Morrowind for PCs with a lot less power Wink

We appreciate your enthusiasm whole-heartedly.

While one could cheat and hack the game with some scripting knowledge, I've occasionally put in...ah...acknowledgments from NPC's and the like that basically say: hey, you're cheating, congratulations! How's that workin' out for ya?

It's a little immersiveness incentive for people not to cheat.

And yet Morrowind was as heavy back then as Oblivion was now.
As I came to explore more and more Morrowind I get the feeling that the engine was not used to its full. The world was big but the dialogues were very much old school... Even now Morrowind can be boosted to Oblivion like features (the far distrance view plugin comes to my mind).

Heh! Cheers, Sage. Got a nice and varied list of game interests, and Sonic and Ultima are just two of 'em!

I remember playing Morrowind on my old Athlon 800. Hmmm, that was a rather slow experience! Fun, definitely, but slow. When I get the new (Linux-only) PC, I might just turn this old crate back into a Windoze (2k) box, just for playing Morrowind and NWN on.

I meant to ask in the previous post when there would, ah, be something tangible for us to tinker, and play with? So that i might once again immerse my self in the world that is Ultima!

What I meant by cheats as well was the how shall I put this... There were things you could do in Ascension, like build bridges out of items, etc. Are you working on a way to prevent such exploitation?

A playable demo would be nice, perhaps, or even just an updated video of the current build in action.

As for the U9 items cheat, not entirely sure if that's possible to replicate using Morrowind's engine.

Morrowind doesn't offer many ways to cheat, as long as you don't use the console. Well, in some cases you can make use of the rather limited wayfinding algorithm to gain an advantage over an AI enemy. Don't know if you consider that cheating.

Not sure if you can build a bridge out of items, but you would need tons of items for it. Even if it works, you wouldn't gain any real advantage (would take ages to place all the items). It's simply not practical.

Can't say anything about other cheats in Ascension, because I have never played that game.
