...SOON...

I have to add to Jacar's post.

Yes we are on hold. My lack of time didn't help either. But I promise, in one way or the other Redemption WILL be finished. But it only makes sense when we can do it right. And at the moment, in terms of our "work situation", nothing is right.

I can understand if you don't believe us. Too many projects have died already and we have been at this for about 10 years now. I can only ask you to be around again when you hear that we are back.

This would actually be VERY important. I realized how important it is for the team and for me to see that you are interested. So if you have been around only to read about news give yourself a push and register. Post from time to time. You have no idea just HOW much you help us with that!

Thanks for your support so far, even on the fan project vote: http://ultimacodex.com/2014/01/vote-for-...roject-of-2013/

You guys are so amazing! Words cant express how grateful I am that you are/were around. Beside our passion it's the only source of motivation we have.

I wish you all the best! You will hear from me!

...

Actually, I will post a bit more info:

A few months back I considered moving the project to Skyrim. I got the basic landscape done. You can see the result here: Skyrim CS Screenshot (click).

We ended up deciding against it.

We might continue in MW once openMW is done but the move to Unity or the Divinity editor (read this) is still in the air too.

So guys, please don't give up on us, please support the team by registering and posting and please stick around.

Thank you!!!

Corv

Hello Guys and Gals,

As you have apparently seen, we've gone into one of our silent spells in terms of updating the community with news about our project. The truth of the matter is that for a while now we've been having a discussion amongst ourselves about what to tell the community. After this chat, we have come to the conclusion that it is fairest to you and to ourselves to tell you more about what's been up with us as of late. We appreciate and admire how much you've stuck by us over the years, and you are a large part of why Redemption has come as far as it did. I'm going to sum up some parts briefly, but the following is the end result of our discussion:

As you may know, we had "recently" decided to scrap our previous party system in favor of a new system (post here). We also decided to plod along without waiting for the gang at OpenMW (led by our very own Zini) to finish up their work. Tragically, due to technical issues, we have found that this is tedious at best, and impossible at worst. For those that have used the CS, I'm sure you have some idea what we're talking about. For those that have not, let me sum it up in two words: it sucks. Frequent crashes and tedium of use were initially to be addressed by OpenMW (or so we thought).

But as you may also recall from our earlier posts, further delays in production on an already unstable team would not be ideal for our longterm health or for getting the best possible product out there. The team has been working for years and has overcome a large amount of hiccups, many of which may have canned professional projects. But to drag your feet and halfheartedly finish something is also not what gets a product out there. And it would not be something we were proud of, therefore not an option.

With all this in mind, we have sadly decided that Redemption is as of this writing on hold.

This means that we are halting production. This however, does NOT mean that this is the end of us. We have every intention of staying together as a team and getting a finished project out there. We are also considering a number of future options, including a possible switch to the Unity Engine, which would mean our resultant project could be something a tad different...

As always, thank you so much for sticking by us all these years. It means more to all of us and to me personally than you know. We hope to have more updates in the coming weeks.

Best Wishes,

Jacar

THANK YOU

for your participation in the party poll! You helped us a lot in our decision and here you can read what we decided and why:

Britain Screenshots:

and here an overview of parts of Britain in the CS (there is more surrounding farm land):

Britain still needs worldbuilding work. Hyena is working on the interiors but we also need to add more around the castle and between houses (trees, bushes, grass,... just the little things)

I hope you enjoy what you see.

PS: now that we have the attention of more people again please check out the new tune Dustin created for us: News entry

Ok guys and gals!

Here's some insight to what is going on at the moment:

1.) NO we did NOT abandon this project, don't listen to false rumors Wink

2.) Yes we are having some issues to solve.

So we hit a wall with some limitations of the MW engine. Nothing that makes this game impossible, so calm down and keep reading.

We had a looong internal discussion. Actually it's still going on. One thing we definitely do not want to do is wait till openMW is done. That much is decided.

The only real problem we have is making a party system work in a way we are really happy with. Yes we can have the party run with us, there are things you can do with them, but we are not happy with how it works, there are too many issues.

Ultima 9 also had no party, but it wasn't the biggest problem of that game or was it for you?

So we want to test the waters and want to ask YOU, would Redemption without a party kill your excitement for the project? Is it a deal breaker for you? Vote! Everyone loves polls right?

More other thoughts and infos coming up over the next few weeks. You will be able to help us shape the game and that without this being a Kickstarter project, cool right? Wink

Love,

Corv

UPDATE 3: For those without credit card, you can now pledge via Paypal on their homepage! https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/

UPDATE 2: Trailer:

This is not directly related to Redemption, but it so huge it has to be in our news Smile

Lord British teases us with a puzzle piece:

and a webpage:
http://www.lordbritishpresents.com/

It looks a lot like Ultima. Unless he got the license from EA it won't be called Ultima, but it sure will be more Ultima than anything EA does without him.

I would not be surprised if he will finance it with Kickstarter just like his buddy Chris Roberts did with the new Wing Commander game, Star Citizen. Chris Roberts wrote during his Kickstarter campaign, that he told Garriott to use Kickstarter if he wants to create a new Ultima.

Ok I am jumping to conclusions here, but one can hope right?

On Friday we will know more!

UPDATE 1:

It's called SHROUD OF THE AVATAR

Go to their Kickstarter page and pledge! https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/

I am so excited!

Yeah I am not crazy about the graphics yet, but it's early Wink

Dustin Naegel, who will create additional music for us now that he upgraded his hard- and software is proud to present you his first contribution to the project in the form of an excellent Ultima VI Intro remix!

You can find it on our media page and here: Ultima VI Intro Theme remix (click)

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to say hello and thank you all again for your support. It has been quite some time since our last post, but didn't want anyone to think it had to do with us abandoning our labor of love.

In truth, we've just been a little lazy the past few months in posting an update but we have actually gotten some news together.

I need to finalize some of our progress into a coherent block of text for you all to read, so stay tuned.

..In the mean time, what is everyone up to these days? Reply and let me know. Any exciting RPGs going on?

In addition to Ultima, I've been playing Final Fantasy 1 for the iPad. Pretty cool to see it again. Wish they'd have some ultima stuff eh?

**JOB POSTINGS**

--==UPDATES THROUGH JANUARY==--

Well everyone, it's been a productive couple of months since our last posting, and I was given the honor to summarize the work thus far. How have you all been? It's just so exciting to be a part of this amazing team. Last week I put myself in the shoes of an Ultima fan who would be browsing our forum and I thought "There is just so much content historically, but lately there hasn't been a significant amount of new posts to read".

Now ostensibly this might seem as if there is no progress going on, but I can assure you that is not the case. We've actually all been quite busy on making this dream a reality, and we will try to take a SHORT pause every once in a while to post some additional things for everyone!

Definitely check the developer diaries and be ready for more screen shots. As always, having the unwavering support of everyone really keeps us going. We'd love to see more comments and thoughts on the game, and we'd love the opportunity to answer any questions that you all might have.

Well, enough talking, let's move on to the updates!

Corv: Working with everyone on the team as well as the backend to ensure the project runs smoothly. Just to be clear, I said Corv is working the backend. *wink*. Alright enough sexual innuendos.

Zini / DireHaggis: I just spoke to DH not long ago! They both continue to be very engaged in keeping the project moving along with Corv.
What is important to note is that they are assisting greatly in the logistical planning and are jumping around from area to area to ensure the game as a whole is where it needs to be. This is, honestly, as critical as any other aspect of a project, and it's really comforting to know they are spending a lot of time reviewing the release process and proper execution of the plan we laid out.

Hyena-of-Doom: Has made progress with Britain's NPC's, and estimates a few more weeks of work before the next major status update. All in all, things are going favorably.

LSD: After a brief pause and prodding on gchat from me, he has with renewed spirits resumed his efforts on the fishing mechanics to the game. He has also completed several NPCs for Buccaneer's Den, and some summaries for Hyena.

Jacar: In the final stages of a semi-secret village which is sure to impress. He will also be taking up Yew and then move on to the remaining areas.

Red Potion: I've made significant progress in Vesper.
-Completed (finally) the town hall of Vesper, which is the largest structure in the town. Screen shots at http://imgur.com/a/iR0nq
-Completed the surrounding houses.

In summary, I'm basically done with Vesper from a building standpoint and anticipate to enter the review and finalization phases by the end of the month (give or take a few weeks, but will keep you all posted)

Spyder: Very flooded with modeling (both 3d, and showing off his amazing body natürlich), however has created many new entries. The fantastic aspect of this is that he is working "smarter, not harder" and made many universal models such as expandable rugs, doors, windows, and fireplaces. Presently, he is adding additional walls to the game, curtains, curtain rods, art, pictures, picture frames, tapestries, and many other interchangeable items that are so critical to giving interior builders the flexibility to adapt common items into the culture that is specific to the town they are assigned.

Karaz: Unfortunately the cow he made was so amazing that Imgur (and our own website) couldn't host it - I think that the http and ftp protocols were not capable of such unique data transmission, so he is researching a way to reduce the greatness of his work (as if that was even possible)!
