[taps secret bugging device to make sure the following is recorded]

But Kultan! We LOVE EA! Why, they have developed marvelously intricate, well-made franchises and occasional original games for the enjoyment of millions of consumers everywhere! And their willingness to allow non-competitive remakes of abandonware is both merciful and munificent of them.

Long live EA!

U9: Ascension was a flawed Ultima, but in some few ways it was a decent or even good game. I'm mostly thinking about Moonglow at night and assorted pretty graphics. I've repeated myself on this a lot. I like theme parks, sue me.

Regarding how much longer this game may take:

While the game is obviously done when it is done, 3 years from right now is almost certainly too long. I'd hazard that even 2 years from now is unlikely. (Although Corv or anyone else is perfectly welcome to disagree and shackle me back to my laptop without any supper).

The development speed for Worldbuilding and especially dialogue writing has greatly increased in the last several months. Those are easily the biggest fields that need the most production time. We also got some dedicated 3D model members, without whom production would have been stalled.

After all the ups and downs, I've never felt better and more confident about our progress.

Fantastic work as always. The feel and architectural elegance fit the theme quite well. It's like...magic? (sorry)

The game runs pretty well on my current machine, which is 3 years old:

1.28 Ghz Pentium 4, 512mb RAM, Radeon..uh...6400?

It runs beautifully in most places. Takes it 45 seconds to convert .RAW to .TIFF photo files, but there's not much FPS drop even near the more complex areas.

Yeah I didn't specify what I had in mind re: cheating very well. I should clarify:

Real cheating in terms of boosting stats, somehow creating quest items for oneself that take awhile to get...all of that is perfectly well and good. It could wonkify the narrative, but that is the player's call. While I'm sure all the Titans would like players to tackle the game without THAT kind of cheating, it's a mod, it's public-access, it's yours as much as it is ours.

Indeed: if you want to terraform the Isle of the Avatar to give it a different mood, cool. If you want to gut the entirety of the main plot or extend it out even more (which can be easily done), cool. If you want auto-summoned dancing Hello Kitty creatures to engage in poetry slams to a remixed Utena soundtrack every time you walk into a tavern, cool.

Modding a game makes it yours in a unique way.

The few...ok, the one instance I was commenting on was if someone intentionally removed a critical quest item during a sequence where, I believe, one cannot drop it. It's really just an out-of-game joke.

But yeah, I never expected it to see the light of day. But if you hack the code, you can.

While I know this may sound like the team party line, I do sincerely mean it:

Compared to the old ToE team I was on, we've accomplished a huge amount of really quality work. We're also moving more quickly now that our team is more secure, hard-drives haven't recently failed, our FTP server hasn't been hacked and nuked, etc.

Could it be faster?

I don't know about other project development arms. For the main plot, in all honesty, I could devote more time to it if I spent less time working, doing stuff with my girlfriend, etc. My life got complicated and very busy in the last 6 months.

But I think when I DO get to work on writing, I have a zeal for it. Writing is moving at the same pace as worldbuilding, though, and should be finished in concert with it.

We could have cut plenty of corners to push forward a beta release. However, the finished product wouldn't be nearly as good. I know it's a mantra from me, but like Kultan's said: we are making good progress on all fronts.

Ascension was rigidly linear about which islands you could go to and when.

While there are a few linear segments of Redemption's main plot for storytelling purposes, being able to skip to other islands using a cheat wouldn't be a benefit or really screw up the main plot.

Actually, in some places and cases if the player did that, the Avatar's arse would promptly become his/her hat. That is, s/he would die. Quickly.

Thank you for the link to the site!

Ahhh, I thought perhaps there were grammar or syntax differences instead of just changed vocab. That does make things easier. It's curious they understand other humans well enough. We (and by 'we' I mean myself at the moment) will have to keep this in mind.

Lizardmen translation guide? 19-09-2021 06:32 Forum: Ultima IX: Redemption

While I have an excerpt of Lizardman speak from UU1, having other examples of their linguistic style would help me and the other writers.

So, I guess I'm asking:

1) Does anyone know of a site or some information somewhere that has the grammar, syntax, and established vocabulary for Lizardmen?

2) Does someone have a complete UU1 transcript? I have a partial transcript, but it's pretty truncated and generally not useful.

While I'm on the topic of dialogue requests, I have a favor to ask of anyone with the U7:SI code: I can't seem to find the dialogues of any of the ghosts in Mortegro's manor in the city of mages after the banes are released and everything goes batshit crazy. Could someone help me with this, given that I have no idea where my SI copy is, let alone how to get at the code?

You all make this project do-able and Ultima-able. I well and truly mean that.

Never did play KotOR2. Wanted to, but I generally can't stand games where the end allegedly just falls apart or stops abruptly. Haven't played Anachronox either.

I loved BaK dearly. Trouble was, with every new chapter, I felt compelled to wander around Midkemia and visit every town again. I never did make it past Chapter 2.

We appreciate your enthusiasm whole-heartedly.

While one could cheat and hack the game with some scripting knowledge, I've occasionally put in...ah...acknowledgments from NPC's and the like that basically say: hey, you're cheating, congratulations! How's that workin' out for ya?

It's a little immersiveness incentive for people not to cheat.
