###**Job Postings**###

There are no job postings as of this time--to the best of my knowledge.

###**Update**###

Zini: Script tweaking and implementation. Waiting on me to send dialogues for Paws. While I wrote the main quest dialogues for this town, we went through..2? 3? Around 3 dialogue writers for it. Hell with it, if it's not on the FTP I'll gen the NPCs.

Spyder: Has been working on the interior space for the mage tower in New Magincia. Also did some doors and windows.

Redpotion: In September he finished several buildings of Vesper. In October, after recovering from Oktoberfest, he added doors, staircases, and other floor particulars. Currently working on adding clutter, more doors, windows, and ceilings.

Karaz: Created various and sundry models of wondrous wonder, including a very fine looking wine flask among other things. Did I mention he's making a cow? He is making an epic, epic cow. It is a cow model full of win and awesomesauce.

Jacar: Continuing work on a semi-secret village location somewhere north of Britain. This includes NPC writing as well as interiors.

Corv: As usual, behind the scenes stuff.

Direhaggis: I wrote the update. I got married a few days ago but that's no excuse at all. Admittedly I am on stand-by to help implement the next portion of the main plot, the first 1/3 of which has been left well enough alone for a few years now. Honestly, though, part of me wants to somehow lop off a whole section or a few sections so that there's less for the scripters and worldbuilders to worry about. Granted, I made the whole main plot very interwoven, but the longer production goes on the more I'm tempted for the sake of our hardcore fan base. Really I just want to go back in time, tell myself back then, "you know, 30 hours of main plot really is fine", and wind forward to now.

"I live at home with my parents. It's just temporary...'til they die." --Gamers, the movie

Thanks for the anticipated update DH. I appreciate the quandry as to whether to make the plot simpler so it can be finished faster, but we are all hanging in there and will continue to hang. It has been quite a few years now and it is probably going to be another year or three before anything can be published - then there will be bugs to sort out! So, congratulations to the team for hanging in for so long and staying with it. I feel it would be wrong to shorten the original plot just to appease us fans a bit. This is really a decision for you and the rest of the team because it has kept you all occupied for so long.

Warmest congratulations on your Marriage.

Fred

Yay for the update, and gratz DH on the marriage!

And I second Fred. Ya, the longer script may mean longer production time, but your hard-core fan-base that's been here for a couple years already aren't leaving you guys. Big Grin We love what you've been doing, and to cut sections now would make us sad, and be shorting yourself. Big Grin We'll wait, we promise!

Wow, it sounds like you developed a monster of a plot... something that might be too ambitious for a reasonable fan project time frame.

Don't know how far along the plot is implemented, but sometimes things have to trimmed (with swiss-army knife scissors not hedgeclippers) for the sanity of the developers. I would think 5 to 10 years is good range for a fan project, but more than 12 and its starts to look like a never-going-to-end deal (very bad demotivater).

Personally I don't care if it is released next year or 5 years from now, but sometimes a design that is too large can get to the point where it will never be finished. And from the updates over the years, your plot sounds gigantic. Fan projects in some ways moreso than major developers must balance size and time.

As I have no clear idea of the plot's actual size vs implementation time, I can't given an opinion (which isn't worth much, admittedly) on whether it is way too ambitious. Honestly with the speed with which Thepal was churning out towns, I have to wonder if something like dialog and plot scripting would really be that time consuming to implement even for a 100 hour main plot.

It is just somethings to consider as you move into a new phase of your life.

PS I think this mod will be the crowning achievement for the Ultima community, so as a fan, near perfection (included size and depth of plot) is definitely desired.

I fully agree with Sir Iceblade. It is fairly obvious that this will be the crowning climax of the Ultima fan remake series when it is completed (yes-I said "when," not "if"), but if Corv and the rest of the team consider that the only way to get it completed in a timeframe that is acceptable to the team is to simplyfy it somewhat, then so be it. As we have already said, us fans will hang in there nomatter how long it takes. I for one have played the entire Ultima series shortly after Garriott first released them - but their addictiveness has put me off getting involved with any of the current games due to the time that I would have to devote to playing them. I am looking forward to making an exception for this one - but then, it is an Ultima!

I don't have much to add, other than some general words of encouragement and that I agree with the other sentiments in this thread.

The well-wishes of both the 'stay the course' and 'it's reasonable to make wise adjustments' people are much appreciated. New or veteran, we've always been mindful of your input.

Personally, I am of the latter camp if it ever seriously gets in the way. I'm at a time in my life where writing 2-3 hours a night just isn't going to happen.

I also know by this time that we've pretty much got the hardcore fanbase left, which is fine. I'd told myself early on that if only 100 people played the mod, it'd be a damn fine experience that we could all remember--players and developers.

It's been hard to find work-arounds. We wanted to go where Skyrim went with forging years ago. Thing is, doing that but with older technology (and no ability to change the hard code) was a BITCH.

So while it's equally difficult to implement the main plot, it is (I've been assured) the actual last element. Granted, it's a big element, but worldbuilding and implementation of skills was a vast, vast undertaking I did not remotely appreciate as a writer with little CS (and even less MW modding) background.

TL;DR: we will always appreciate and welcome your suggestions. God knows it gave and gives me sanity sometimes.

*hands DH 2 red and blue pills with purple polka-dots and yellow stripes*

Sanity pills. Take them and call me in the morning. Unless you feel that all reality is slipping away from you and that you are somehow stuck in an alternate universe where you do this thing called "coding" for "computers". Then you've lost all hope, and you shall have an audience with Lord British immediately, for perhaps his knowledge of other worlds may be able to help you then...or at least get you to the Codex.

I just realised that the post said New Magincia, but it is Moonglow. The interior still keeps giving me trouble, because I want to try something with it, that the engine does not seem to want me to. But I am sure I'll find workarounds Smile
