Thread: Crashes |
|
Well, I am making a general inquiry amongst the broader community about a particular game crash error (probably relating to the dreaded corrupt save game) and a second solution I found online:
Well, basically I was in Moonglow, I saved, quit and came back to find the save corrupted. The crash error (using 1.19f) is the map has crashed at a certain location and message gives xyz coordinates.
Well, I forgot how to get rid of the default game start, so I look online and actually found a second solution to this U9-old problem. Namely, instead of having to delete start.dat, just set Poofflames=0 in the options.ini file. The text in the file says "Are particle-system flames allowed?"
This seems to have worked. I was able to start the game where I left off. This is a very interesting solution I must say and I have had this error several times in the past. It may mean that the particle system either has a conflict in some ways with my graphics card/software/etc. or that the particle system has errors that will cause random corruptions for save files.
My main question for the community, though, is has anybody ever encountered an error in U9 that gave the location of the crash? Also, please state whether poofflames was set to 1 and what graphics you had when the crash occurred.
Thank you for your participation.

Robutnic: Grrr...I'll you get hedgehog even if it is the last think I do. Now where did I put that spellbook.
Sonic: Looking for this....*drops spellbook into the water*

Wow, that is very good guess. I like it, though an equally likely location could be Buc's Den, which I think is still free from Atarkan control (could be wrong on that, though).

Yeah, that was rather annoying, but the fly cheat makes it all better. The big skull room was interesting too, but most the triggers were never implemented and I think it was probably for an exploration area that never got finished.

What was U7's Dungeon of Shame like? Did it serve any special purposes?

IRC might work pretty good as a substitute and you just drink beer in front of the computer.
PS Obviously I know DH wasn't being serious, he's correct of course.

I suppose it is up to interpretation, but if you believe U9 then they can regain their strength yet pyros couldn't quite seem to get the revenge he wanted.

We must also remember that the Arabs admired us before we started meddling over there (most prominently in '53 when we basically turned Iran from a Democracy into a US backed dictatorship). This was because we threw off the "shackles of European imperialism," we were independent and free (as a country), and probably because we didn't meddle in other people's affairs (I am not sure about that last one cause we certainly did in the late 19th century).
In any case, I seriously think that the borders should better guarded than they are. If it is mostly Iranians and Saudis and Syrians (as well as al Qaeda) fighting us and spurring Iraqis to fight us than wouldn't it be far better to guard the borders than to meander around with bull-eyes on our back.
Do we still need some troop presence in the interior? Sure, but what the hell is up with the fact that the Iraqi military haven't been in a more active role already (we were supposed to be training them for almost four years now). They should be able to do much more on their own by now.
Should we have gone in the first place? No way in hell, not because of the fact that they didn't have WMD's, it is because they wouldn't have used it against us nor have given it is up to a terrorist group unless that group was going after Iran.
Should we have gone in like we did? No, absolutely not, because Bush's plan was rediculously ill-concieved and has now gotten us mired in Iraq. Did he even begin to plan this out. What has been accomplished by now should have occurred long ago. Iran will also likely just invade Iraq when we live (except in maybe a fair number of years).
These ignorant Neo-cons think they know the Middle East. No, you don't even have the first clue, so listen for once in your damn lives to those who know more than you do like in this case listen to those who spend their time, energy and life studying these Middle East. (this stab is mostly towards Gulliani, but other neo-cons seem to have this problem)

The dialogues are actually turning out to be harder to find than I thought. I would like to be able to have a few facts about the place before trying to breach the gap of time from U7 to U9.
Edit: Well, I eventually found the transcript of the U7 dialogue. http://www.bootstrike.com/Ultima7bg/cool.html

Hey, could anybody give me a history of New Magincia (with the most details being from U7)? I would be most appreciative.

Thread: New Ultima by EA? |
|
Yeah, Wing Commander has a pretty good chance of coming back esp. considering WC: Prophecy where the torch of the PC was changed to Lance Casey (although the actor might not return to reprise his role). Ultima didn't have this nor is the idea of being another character going to be all that appealing to some fans. Also, there is no appearate validation of this information.
In any case, I don't they will bring out an Ultima that would be appealing to a fair number of fans. As for U9's plot, EA didn't have anything to do with that directly, it was their deadline, though, that hurt the plot and the game as a whole. I really, though, hold the dev team at fault for most of it. It would seem that they pretty much sat on their buts until the engine was somewhat finisheded. Although I do think that the Christmas deadline was a bit rediculous (imagine a what 6 months to a year with a full team could have done for U9).
Anyway, U9 just seems so ill planned to me.

Thank you, what is bad though is the fact that it is practically true.

That was just rude. Just because the last Ultima was 7 years ago doesn't mean the fan community should end with it. Look at Wing Commander, 8 years and still a very large fan community along with quite a few "original" (eg. not centered around the main character of the canon) mods.
