###**Job Postings**###
Interior Worldbuilders: While we have gotten a few new people over the last 2 months, we are always looking for more folk that can put things on top of other things. Like I've said before: if I can vaguely work with the construction set, you most surely can do it.
Here's the latest news.
###**Update**###
Zini: I know I write this periodically, but U9R would not be possible without Zini. He implements, he scripts, and patiently explains MW's limitations to your seldom informed writer, gentle reader. He did some dungeon creation and implementation for the beginning of the main game. He's also in charge of balancing the 8 virtue classes so that their beginning, middle, and end powers are roughly balanced and useful in different situations. General miscellaneous bugs were also killed.
LSD: This man has been absolutely instrumental in helping us populate the rest of Britain proper. And he's finished up well over dozens of NPCs! Like I've written before, I think in total we've got about 70 unique ones wandering around. He's also working on characters for Vesper, followed by Buc's Den. He's also taken one for the team and helped us with some, ahem, dry runs of some mods that may be of interest to the more mature set.
Aurora: Working on Covetous. I am happy that the dungeons are getting populated. I like populated dungeons.
Alpha3d: Working on Hythloth. He's a long-time Ultima fan and definitely has a feel for both the more recent (uh, if 1991 is recent) Ultima flavor as well as those more int he past.
Hyena of Doom: Started and finished interiors for an undisclosed cold location (!). Is nearly done with another portion of said location (!). I'm really looking forward to his interpretation of the locations I set up in my mind.
Grogdon: Every so often touches up Minoc.
Direhaggis: Finished another 3 endings for the main quest. I'll continue with yet more alignment and quest influenced ones this month, as well as getting started on the 'main' ending. By 'main' I mean the one people will typically view as the logical end to events that occur in U9R. I also worked on some tutorials for the player at the beginning of the game and did some dialogue revision. Finally, I finished ~10 miscellaneous books and borrowed ~20 from the U6 and U7:BG corpus. Me and anyone else who wants to will write many, many more.
Corv: Behind the scenes stuff.
Jacar: Working on interiors for one of those undisclosed cold locations. While I can't write anything about it, I will say that he takes an existing set of ideas and a space and really pulls it together to make visual sense.
Spyder: Made a series of 'broken' models based on existing objects, a gorgeous set of painting equipment, and other things for classified locations.
I'd like to end by writing that it's immensely satisfying, as a Titan from the beginning and a writer from the first incarnation of U9R, that we have a solid team going and an end in sight. Granted, implementation will take a long time, and interiors the same, but still--we're going forward!

.....And Fred-A is back with his habitual response to DH's monthly posts. Once again a most satisfying report is welcomed and maintains our faith in the fact that one day we will be able to wander once again in yet another manifestation of Brittannia. In due course we will be able to wield our weapons, be trained in their more sophisticated use, mix our potions and cast our magic. The screenshots we have are breathtaking appetite whetters and it would appear that there are plenty of absolutely brand new places to explore which will add yet more to the basic plot.
As I have said before; We continue to wait with patient anticipation. Well done everyone.
Fred

Great to hear everything is going well. So, how far ahead can you see?
Is that "end in sight" years away, or months away? Just curious
All this talk of alternate endings is interesting. I love alternate endings. Gives me a reason to play a game more than once. And by the sound of things so far, you guys are putting plenty of reason for playing this one more than once.

We've tried speculating about a release date before. It doesn't work well. While we have a half dozen members that appear to be in it for the 'long haul', momentum and motivation wax and wane.
At this point it largely depends on the number of additional interior worldbuilders we have. Currently that department has 4 members. Sometime in the future I'll be joining them, probably to work on interiors relevant to the main plot.
Yes, there is enough content where replaying differently 3-4 times would still be enriching and give you added information about what's happening or why it happened. Alignment and different party choices alone can significantly change each replay. For example, like the Baldur's Gate series, there are dozens of points in the main plot where party members 'interact' with each other to react to what's occurring.
Also, because most of the main plot is non-linear and each of its five main 'arms' can be tackled mostly independently, what order you do that in will affect dialogues and what happens.
For endings: beyond what most people will consider the 'main' ending, there are currently a dozen alternative endings that can open up and are specific to:
*Predominantly being 'good', 'neutral', or 'evil';
*Who you decide to take as a romantic partner if anyone;
*Various critical decisions made during the game;
*What you do during the Endgame.
(It'll be pretty clear when some choice you can make will lead to any ending, don't worry. We also never force you into an ending.)
Many of those alternates have mini-alternate variations with text changes based on various factors (class, alignment, gender, romantic partner, critical dialogue choices made, whether you were naked when you did what you did, etc.). For example, an alliance made that leads to a game ending can range anywhere from having catastrophically horrible consequences to being oddly good and emotionally satisfying.

For books why not ask the fan community to write the other non-event specific books.

If other people write them, we'd certainly take them into consideration for use in the game. What do other people think about this idea? It seems good.

While it would be a hassle to write, yes, I for one wouldn't consider making a potential walkthrough not freely available for the community.

...It would be a large undertaking to write a comprehensive walkthrough. I'm talking along the lines of the original Fable, where every alignment score modifier, quest, item, and shop list is detailed with very fancy art.
A general walkthrough concerning the major aspects of the main quest parts would be more doable. Granted, someone would need to detail the location of every major NPC and battle that forwards one of the five plot segments. This step would take by far the most time.
My sense is that unless someone else on the writing team or a very dedicated beta tester went through ALL my dialogues (~1,500 .doc files) or played the game several times, Fred-A is right in that I'd need to do it. I'll punt and say: we shall see.
I appreciate the gesture of paying for intellectual property derived from U9R, but I'm guessing that would not legally fly. Still, the thought is appreciated.

Though all of you probably knew it, the last update for 2009 will be delayed. I cite the holiday season as a reasonable excuse. It'll be up soon.

A walkthrough? Isn't making the game enough?
I'm sure some fan playing through Redemption will eventually write a comprehensive walkthrough, as was the case with pretty much every Ultima ever released.

LSD: When it is eventually released, I expect that this board will be buzzing with hints and spoilers to help people along. No doubt the Titans will read them, smile and lend a bit of assistance when they think this appropriate!
D.H. The delay in the December update is understandable and we look forward to reading it as soon as it can be published.
