I found feeding manually to be one of the more annoying aspects of U7. I would prefer it to be done automatically. If there is no penalty for being say 90% hungry vs 30% hungry then I'd suggest just making it automatic at 90%. In this way people that enjoy that sort of thing can make him eat whenever they want, while others will leave it to the game to decide. I think it's certainly enough realism to require the keeping of food in the party.
Also I'd prefer to be able to see this hunger meter you mentioned. Perhaps not necessiarly on the main window, but certainly easily available.

Well, it's hard in the sense that you can't use items on other people, putting scripts on objects makes them unstackable, and any ways I can think of off the top of my head are ugly.

Thanks, that answers a lot of my questions. I'm still curious how long the day will be, though. It'd be nice if they were longer to help account for the need to feed your party and do other sorts of things. A four or six hour day would be kinda neat. What were you planning in that area?

i would like to be able to have the Possibility to give certaing Party Members Food Priority - which means - Charakter 2 - 4 get Food but not 5 to 7 because there is no so much Food left - i would like to have a Window , or some Way to ajust this - i am thinking about he Possibliity in Ultima 6 to choose the way of Attack for each of your Partymembers - so why not be able to ajust this with the "Attack on the Food" ?
Maybe i yust want to be a little dictator , but i would like to be able to let Partymembers starve , while others can feed freely - maybe tell them even that they cant eat spare ribs , Aplles and cheese - only Apples - which have this and that Nutrition Value .
And about the Bar of Hunger - that is showing me when the Charakter wants to eat something - the Avatar should have one at the Start , he should know by the Start of the Game when he uasually gets hungry in the day - but with the others -> their Bar should show up afer something like a Week or so - by then the Avatar should have judged the Appetite of his fellow Companions - Not everybody eats as much as others , and maybe even Nutrition should be different from Charakter to charakter - like Charakter is more Satisfied when he eats Cheese , while Charakter 3 is more satisfied with Bread. maybe even so much satisfied that one Stat of the Charakter are slightly better when the Diet fits 100% perfect to his needs - while another Stat is decreased by one - like if i eat lots of this Food - i feel Stronger - but because i lack the Nutrition that is in the other Food i lack some of my dexterity
And Hunger could change also with Activities done , or Damage taken .
Well i hope these are not too much wild Ideas.

Ya, I like the idea of having different party members consume food at different rates. Such that 'Spark' consumes less than say 'Dupre'. I'm not sure if I'd have some party members be more satisfied with certain foods, well perhaps, maybe Dupre gets a bonus when he's buzzed...
edit: oops, I vote for manual for all party members. However include options where if you eat at a pub, everyone eats automatically. Just have the manual feeding mainly for adventuring.

i don't know how you want to code the food consumption but I'd like to see diffrent effect for different food. What does this mean ? A pumpkin will sate you faster than a single apple, water will get your thirst down but drinking ale and beer would also get you drunk (at different speed too).
Maybe some "special" food can change your state of well being like being poisonned from rotten food or oral poison, but also maybe some bbeneficial effect like clairvoyance berries (maybe as an easter egg from Martian Dreams).
this could be used as part of quest (like the idea about poisoning a guard) or to balance magical item use (baking a bread or pie would help replenish life/mana faster).
So it would definitevely: yes !

The character should eat automatically while traveling provided the food items are in thier inventory.
once items in inventory are exhausted, the user should recieve periodic reminders that they havent eaten which will become more frequent the longer that takes.
If the character is starving, they should start to lose health as well as making thier spellcasting and fighting less effective..
A little mumbling and general erratic behaviour if the character is so starved that they have a problem concentrating ont he task at hand.
manual feeding is great as long as it doesnt get in the way of gameplay.
when in towns.. the character and or party members should suggest an inn possibly that they are famliar with as a substitute for the simple menus of the road.
just a thought.

Another idea, you can have a bag or place dedicated for food eaten automatically and food not in this bag/container will not be eaten under any circumstance.
