In helping DH kick up some activity again...

What will the flow of time be in Redemption? For example, U7 was right around 10x real time (every 6 seconds real time was 1 minute Britannian time).

At what times do the day and night cycles start?

Will the time of year have an effect on the day/night cycle start times?

Will the progression of seasons be reflected in the game environment? If so, will NPC's dress accordingly?

I don't have the time factor at hand right now, but I can look it up tomorrow.

The day-night-cycle is the same as with vanilla Morrowind. That is something we can't control.

There won't be any seasons. The Morrowind-engine doesn't provide this feature and we can't add it in satisfying quality by using the the script language. Sorry!

I always felt that the flow of time in Morrowind was far too fast. Fortunately, there is a simple variable you can set in the Morrowind console (Oblivion too) that adjusts the ratio of game time to real time. IIRC, I tend to find 4-to-1 ideal for my own liking. The default is somewhere in the neighborhood of 30:1.

But since it's adjustable so easily in Morrowind, I assume it'll be just as adjustable in Redemption. (I hope!)

So, at the console, type:
set timescale to 4
(for 4:1, or 4 minutes of game time for every 1 minute of real time)

There are MW mods that do the same thing, but I always preferred to do it in the console instead of installing a mod.

Edit: Fixed a typo

Looks like the factor is indeed 30 for Redemption, too. Which kind of surprised me, since I thought we had changed it already. A while ago Corv and me talked about slowing down everything. 30 is really too high (not only for the gameplay, but it created some problems with the NPC schedules too).

We won't stick to 30, but I can't tell you yet, what the factor will be. My personal preference would be something around 12. That would make the days long enough for getting some serious work done within a day (or a night) and the player is still experiencing a regular day-night-shift.

A factor of 4 sounds a bit too extreme to me (at least for Redemption). That would mean a full day-night-cycle would last 6 RL hours. Within 6 RL hours (i.e. one in-game day) you can cross whole Britannia several times. Doesn't sound convincing or realistic to me. We clearly have a limit here how far we can slow things down without Redemption starting to look silly. Maybe we will have to do some experiments to find a suitable compromise.

Well, if it is not possible to really implement seasons, there will be substantial climatic and regional effects, isn't it? I mean, for example snowy mountainous zones, some doomed island with tremendous wind (and why not small tornadoes if possible Cool ) and rain (Monsoon-like.) And about Vesper, is it still in a desert ?

And small variations (in long time) of some effects could just be taken as seasons. Well, there could also be global climatic problems making the usual seasons concept irrelevant there. That could be a consequence of a strong increase of volcanoes activity in Britannia (and only that since it is not industrialized Evil )

I don't think there is a especially rainy area. But everything else you mentioned we have. And yes, Vesper is still a desert.

Oh I agree completely. I don't think most people would like 4:1. I just know I do because I experimented quite a lot throughout playing both MW and Oblivion to find what I liked best. I think 12:1 to 16:1 is a nice ballpark for most people.

I'm guessing you won't (and probably can't) prevent people from altering that variable anyways, so I can adjust it to 4:1 in my game should I find the Redeption default too fast for my tastes.

Cheers,
Zofo Dragon

I thought that would likely be the case, so I'm not disappointed. Is there a way of keeping time on a long term basis? As in, will the interface tell us what the date is?

Also, is there an in-game journal feature of any kind?

Sorry, if any of the questions are elementary if you're familiar with the Morrowind engine. I never played it.

Morrowind has an in-game journal. You can see the time of the day, when you open the rest/wait dialogue window.
