Corv, your new avatar is the coolest thing I've ever seen!
Is it a in-game screenshot of the giant Guardian head seen in the end of U8?

I like it because it is more similar to how the Guardian looks in U7/8, with a skull-like face, the Guardian in U9 is a bit more "human".

Why taking inspiration from Super Mario? Do you want to create "Super Avatar Bros II : The Revenge" ?
I have a great suggestion: you can place a parachute on the top of the giant head, so the Avatar could jump off from it and land doing parachuting, like in GTA!!!

I think what made ships fun in the early ultimas was that they were necessary to get to otherwise inaccessible locations, and that in those instances you had to navigate on your own, and finally that creatures, whirlpools and shallow water could damage your ship and send it to the bottom if you made the wrong choices, but you could repair it, too. In ascension, there were only a couple of locations that required manual navigation, otherwise it was autopilot, and the ship itself could never be damaged. It was nice to have Raven at the wheel, but she was chained to it like a slave and couldnt join you.
Another fun thing from earlier ultimas is that there were pirates who fought you on land or at sea, and you could sink them or you might get sunk, or you could battle hand-to-hand with the pirate ship crew and take over their ship.
Another feature in U7 was that you had storage space, but usually the team was able to carry all the provisions it needed. The scale of the game would have to be a lot larger for provisions to make sense, assuming you even needed to drink and eat in the game. I for one would enjoy for it to be necesary to bring water, and to bring food and to be able to catch fish from the deck, to be able to cook in the galley and need to rest in your cabin, aside from having control over the sails, wheel, anchor and cannon.
I guess for me, as with other parts of game, it comes down to whether something is necessary or at least useful, and that you have the same variety of options with it as in real life, which is the same as I was saying about effects of hunger, thirst, fatigue, cold, etc, and for conversations.

I really think that the big guardian head statue should be part of an easter egg or something (like the Hall of Ultimate solutions). How so? The head is actually part of the Great Mini Golf Tour of the Ethereal Realm. And it opens and closes it´s jaw. The Avatar must make a hole in one to win the game without doing all those other cumbersome and boring quests.
Ok, I´m bored, didn´t know what else to post, but you all started it with the head and the carpet and the giant hopping bunny of Antioch.
I´m getting home sick...

That could well be the Endgame:
The Avatar must win a game of mini-game against the Guardian. In the Ether!
EDIT: damn my ass can be dumb sometimes. That's mini-golf.

I am assuming you can at least steer the ship and fire the cannon. I was wondering if you coulld also raise and lower an anchor, and raise and lower the sails. Maybe there wouldn't have to be more graphics, but it could be a part of the actions options for the ship, and in order to move you had to raise the anchor and sails, and to dock safely you had to lower sails and anchor. If I'm not mistaken, one of the earlier ultimas required you to order the sails to be hoisted in order to move.

I am sure I would enjoy to play it even with half of whatever you've planned to do already, it really sounds like a gem! I was able to play MW for several months straight, even though it wasn't ultima, and most of it had a very grey landscape. Just exploring your Britannia would be more fun than that.
I only wish I had the kind of skills the team needs to help finish it.
