**JOB POSTINGS**
--==UPDATES THROUGH JANUARY==--
Well everyone, it's been a productive couple of months since our last posting, and I was given the honor to summarize the work thus far. How have you all been? It's just so exciting to be a part of this amazing team. Last week I put myself in the shoes of an Ultima fan who would be browsing our forum and I thought "There is just so much content historically, but lately there hasn't been a significant amount of new posts to read".
Now ostensibly this might seem as if there is no progress going on, but I can assure you that is not the case. We've actually all been quite busy on making this dream a reality, and we will try to take a SHORT pause every once in a while to post some additional things for everyone!
Definitely check the developer diaries and be ready for more screen shots. As always, having the unwavering support of everyone really keeps us going. We'd love to see more comments and thoughts on the game, and we'd love the opportunity to answer any questions that you all might have.
Well, enough talking, let's move on to the updates!
Corv: Working with everyone on the team as well as the backend to ensure the project runs smoothly. Just to be clear, I said Corv is working the backend. *wink*. Alright enough sexual innuendos.
Zini / DireHaggis: I just spoke to DH not long ago! They both continue to be very engaged in keeping the project moving along with Corv.
What is important to note is that they are assisting greatly in the logistical planning and are jumping around from area to area to ensure the game as a whole is where it needs to be. This is, honestly, as critical as any other aspect of a project, and it's really comforting to know they are spending a lot of time reviewing the release process and proper execution of the plan we laid out.
Hyena-of-Doom: Has made progress with Britain's NPC's, and estimates a few more weeks of work before the next major status update. All in all, things are going favorably.
LSD: After a brief pause and prodding on gchat from me, he has with renewed spirits resumed his efforts on the fishing mechanics to the game. He has also completed several NPCs for Buccaneer's Den, and some summaries for Hyena.
Jacar: In the final stages of a semi-secret village which is sure to impress. He will also be taking up Yew and then move on to the remaining areas.
Red Potion: I've made significant progress in Vesper.
-Completed (finally) the town hall of Vesper, which is the largest structure in the town. Screen shots at http://imgur.com/a/iR0nq
-Completed the surrounding houses.
In summary, I'm basically done with Vesper from a building standpoint and anticipate to enter the review and finalization phases by the end of the month (give or take a few weeks, but will keep you all posted)
Spyder: Very flooded with modeling (both 3d, and showing off his amazing body natürlich), however has created many new entries. The fantastic aspect of this is that he is working "smarter, not harder" and made many universal models such as expandable rugs, doors, windows, and fireplaces. Presently, he is adding additional walls to the game, curtains, curtain rods, art, pictures, picture frames, tapestries, and many other interchangeable items that are so critical to giving interior builders the flexibility to adapt common items into the culture that is specific to the town they are assigned.
Karaz: Unfortunately the cow he made was so amazing that Imgur (and our own website) couldn't host it - I think that the http and ftp protocols were not capable of such unique data transmission, so he is researching a way to reduce the greatness of his work (as if that was even possible)!

Hah that sounds great, we'll see what we can do.
One thing I have always felt strongly about is the classic Ultima Easter Egg. It was just something about it that made me laugh. We're going to try to capture that same magical concept that Richard Garriott did so well.
If you think of any more ideas please share.

Well, I will continue to fulfill my usual function of acknowledging the latest update from Red Potion and I must admit that it gives us all a renewed feeling of enthusiasm for the project. So much continues to go on and it makes all the waiting really worthwhile.
One day we will all be able to view the spectacular contryside and interiors that you are designing and wander at will through this latest manifestation of Britannia. Clearly it will be totally stunning and I am confident that the gameplay will probably exceed the standards reached in U VII - if everybody agrees that it was in this game that the pinnacle of Ultima gameplay was reached.
Titans - you have clearly being carrying on the good work. Please continue to do so and your followers will continue to await the completion of this awsome project with renewed vigour and patience!

Just posting to express my continued enthusiasm and support for this project. New updates are always exciting and I am happy that the team continues to keep us waiting fans informed of the latest developments. It continues to amaze me just how dedicated and organized this team is. While I rarely post I make a habit of checking this site at least once or twice a month.
Best wishes to all those who work to make this game a reality.

Hi,
I just logged in to say how much I'm looking forward to the completion of your project! I don't belong to the old guard and have just discovered Ultima two years ago, playing straight through the Project Britannia Remakes and the Sevens, which are far and away the best games I've ever played (literally!). And now I'll restrain myself from spoiling the experience by playing Ultima IX and instead wait patiently until Lord British's Castle will open its gates for me
.
Greetings (or should I say: Fare you well) and appreciation!

Hina,
Much appreciated. At the moment, I think we're waiting on Open Morrowind (OpenMW) to make significant progress, which will make U9R production much less hellish. In the meantime, we're working on implementation of the main plot one chapter at a time.
To you, and to everyone else, the fact is this: the Morrowind editor was...not optimal...really not optimal...for big projects like ours. At least half of Zini's time and that of any scripter has been figuring out clever ways of getting around bugs that should never have been a problem. Well into production, we realized that implementation using the existing MW editor was going to be a nightmare. When combined with the scope of the world and the fact that I wrote a very intricate Bioware-like main quest needing 75-100 hours to get through one go, production was going to be a problem.
Right now, all external worldbuilding is done. Right now, about 90% of internal worldbuilding is done. I take some or most of the blame for that for various reasons. And right now, the main quest is also done. Technically. There are some superfluous parts I want to cut out to reduce production time.
But our biggest problem has been technical complications. We're all still dedicated, but the existing code is a tough thing to combat.

Hey all who lurks this forum,
Not sure if I've posted before, had this user for quiete a while and been following the project for even longer -> First things first: Awesome thing you guys are doing, I return here regulary to see how it comes along, it's gonna be my first dip into Ultima, apart from the Online version(which is not so much a world more as a placing to fit people in, still pretty fun though). So I'm realy looking forward to this thing!
But regarding your move to wait for OpenMW and Fred-A's concern, well I can deffinatly see why you want to wait with the tough nuts to crack for OpenMW for as I understand it, it will give you access to parts of the egine you could not otherwise mess around with yes?
And if OpenMW reaches it's stated goal, what you do have ready to run in Morrowind should be ready out of the box in OpenMW so no development time would be lost by the move yes? If I understand correctly, I would add that it is a Wise move indeed.
So, to summarise, Keep rocking!!
Looking forward to entering the World of Ultima, as true fans see it, oh and the obligatory "Moar pics&info puh-lease
"

I admit that I am a game player, not a programmer. It's easy to be impatient, and it's easy to say, "just let it be! You're so close!" But I will gladly leave it to the "guys with the mud in their boots" to determine the best course of action when it comes to development.
I will add this thought to those formulating opinions of this development...
All it took to ruin Ultima 9 was to rush it.

There is still some work going on, but some people are indeed somewhat inactive because of RL reasons. I am very focussed on OpenMW right now. I think we will be able to get Redemption out of hibernation once OpenMW is usable (which isn't that far away anymore).

Open MW is an open source reimplementation of the Morrowind engine. It aims to be better than the original which will make things easier.
From watching the frequent releases being made, Zini and the team there are doing a great job and making excellent progress!

daveanti's description is correct.
Making it easier isn't the main aspect. MW is just too buggy, including one very critical bug that screwed up a lot of features. We found it very late in the development process (sneaky little bastard). Had we found it earlier, we might have considered using a different engine.
But OpenMW will also make things easier and even speed up the development once we can use it. For example with MW the plan for exterior shadows was to use vertex paint on the terrain, which takes a lot of effort and so far has been done only in a few areas. But it looks like OpenMW will have dynamic shadows, which means we can skip this task altogether. Will save us several men-months of worldbuilder time.
And don't get me started on the whole scripting system! Having one that doesn't throw up if you just look at it unfriendly enough, will bring a major productivity boost.

Well at least we know that, despite the very long time that this is taking, the enthusiasm is still there and I admire the Titans for their perseverance with this project. Now we know the main reason for the hold up we can all go back to sleep and maintain our watching brief reasonably confident that there will be another "RG" style ultimate Ultima available for us to play eventually.
Thanks for sticking with it guys

Well, maybe you can post a small news update where you say why there are currently no news. It would surely help to avoid the idea that development has stopped.

Our school of thought is more we speak when there's something to speak of. Having folk care so much about our work after all these years is heartwarming, but updates like that would do no good for us or for you.

Hi everyone,
I don't post on the puplic forum that often, but be sure that I am still here reading every single post.
I have not been as productive over the last few month as I was in the past, but I am still making progress. Some of the models on my to-do list (of which more than 90% are done already) are really big ones and quite intimidating. That's why I have been working on smaller custom requests from our worldbuilders Red Potion and Hyena of Doom mainly. I made a ton of models and sets of models to make the interiors more lively.
It is always the greatest thing for me to check the forums and find some words of encouragement and appreciation. I just wanted to quickly thank all the die-hard fans who have been staying with us over the years. Thank you so much for keeping us going and being patient with us!
