I'm not sure how useful this might be, but someone is developing an open sourced Morrowind engine.
http://openmw.snaptoad.com/ - the project's website
http://www.ogre3d.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=41897 - a bit more info development-wise.
Might this be of use? Possibly negating the need to own Morrowind (on the proviso, of course, that all assets are replaced, support is easily included, development of OpenMW allows things like this etc)...

You spoiled the surprise. I wanted to post about OpenMW in the team section in a few days (I am currently in contact with the developer).
The project is in a very early stage, so it is hard to say how useful it will be in the end. But at least it looks very promising. I am not sure if it can replace the original MW game completely for our purpose (which isn't really the point anyway). But if it can provide a less buggy implementation (especially of the script language and the AI system), that would be a great advantage for Redemption.

Anything that makes Zini's job easier would be a boon. I'd have gone mad with rage after hearing some of the odd work-arounds one needs for MW scripting.

I do hope he signs up here, too, now we've pointed him in this direction.

Is anyone still thinking about OpenMW, I believe a new version came out a few weeks ago. I don't think it will be good and ready before Redemption is done, but perhaps it could be converted to OpenMW when you guys have a finished project and OpenMW can be a viable option.
Enjoy the great taste of wassail, in cans!

It's much to early to speculate about the usefulness of OpenMW. Let's wait and see how it will develop.

The way OpenMW works (or is supposed to work), no converting is needed. At least it should run somewhat more stable then the original game and I am rather optimistic, that it will look a bit better too.
But if OpenMW turns out to be good enough, it might be a candidate for TNK, which would then make use of the extended feature set of OpenMW.
