Ok I just bought a new computer this week and I was thinking of checking out how it plays U9 but I ran into a problem. The game wont get out of 640, 480 or whatever.

When I run the "finalInstall" file that asks for what video type Glide or D3D and what mipmap and what resolution, I make it all the way I want but nothing I do seems to save the changes. I make the selections to anything other than default 640 480, and select "OK" then launch U9 just to have nothing change.

When I go back to that Finalinstall screen its like I never made any changes.

Is there a file I can edit to force asension to be in 1280 x 1024? I was looking in the options.ini but saw everything but resolution, am I blind?

OK! I took my time and went through the options file and found resolution! U9 Ascension almost looks good enough to play again, but I am going to play Lazarus first. Ya know, only an Ultima fan would choose a old remake of a DS engine over Oblivion, Doom3, Fear, and others. Am I crazy?!

If you are, then we are. But maybe we're just normal and THEY'RE CRAZY.

Glad you got it worked out, though.

What's crazy about playing the 13453255th Quake 1 clone (=Doom 3, HL2, Fear, Far Cry,...)? Wink

But seriously it seems like people enjoy playing the same game over and over again as long as it has a new engine. Games like System Shock or Deus Ex who try to really raise the bar in the genre don't get the recognition they deserve. I still can't get over the fact that after System Shock it was Half Life who got the credits for trying something new...

So I think Chlor is right, THEY are the crazy ones Wink

Interesting that Ascension's set up didn't seem to change the res. Thanks for the advice though.

Forget about U9's "Final Install".

Download the Ultima IX:Ascension Extended Setup from Xenerke's Ultimatrix download page (http://membres.lycos.fr/xenerkes/download.htm) to configure the game.

And yes, I couldn't understand either how Deus Ex or System Shock didn't get the praise they deserved - especially in comparison to [favourite 3D shooter]. But hey, maybe those games were just a bit too sophisticated. Or why else has "The Da Vinci Code" become such a huge success...?

Ok now that I've pushed the Frustrum (viewing area) to a good size, I'm finding that I can hear too many "far away" noises.

Like when I'm talking to lord British in his castle, I can hear the noise from Stongates protection statues.

Is there a way set it to have only closer stuff make sound?
