Poultry has been featured now and again in RPG's, here and there. I wouldn't cry foul at its inclusion.

Certainly seems to be a recurring theme in NwN community modules, that's for sure ...

Never did buy NwN. Enough people complained about it that I decided to save my money for something else that looked interesting.

So what exactly is all this activity involving fowl in mods?

Lucky you. NWN was crap in singleplayer, and worthless in multi : )

Ah, but the community modules are brilliant.

Try the Hall of Fame.

I especially liked Adam Miller's stuff (except the Demon module, though everyone else raves about it: it was very interesting to see how he completely changed the mechanics of the game engine to suit his concept, though, and would be well worth a look for all the modders out there in mod-land).

The Aielund Saga Act III - Return of the Ironlord and it's predecessor The Aielund Saga Act II - Defender of the Crown from Savant are great, too.

The best, for me, by a long chalk was Rick Burton's Twilight and Midnight ... just waiting for the last of the series: Dawn. (I believe Rick Burton has been hired by Bioware for his work. Certainly I had never even wanted to play a Paladin class character, and now his work has made me play then frequently. Smile )

Really, the best part of NwN is the Community mod scene. It makes the clichéd OC look pale in comparison.

You modders might also be interested in SubBassman's Tortured Hearts. Not just because it's larger than NwN and all its expansions put together, but because he has implemented such concepts as weight per gold coin and day-night cycles, with NPCs having distinct diurnal and nocturnal behaviours, for example, using only the resources of NwN.

Good stuff!

I think the NWN scripting engine is too limited to make really great games. I need tons of interaction to be happy with a RPG. Talking, fighting and some key-finding puzzles aren't enough....

I haven't much tried community made mods. Hmm. about the Tortured Hearts. Is it worth downloading ~144megs? Interesting? Better than nwn main plot (what plot?)?

That's not the worst of it: the save games are 70+MB each! :o

Sure, download and check it out; it is quite an achievement.

Adam Miller has done some interesting stuff, too: he basically recreated (afaik) Pokomon-style combat in the Demon Cards module, and his NPC interation is excellent. There is also some great cut-scene editing using machinima-style NPC control.

You are missing out on the best part of the game if you don't try the Community Mods, trust me. Smile

As for the NwN OC story ... well, it must be pretty good, otherwise Biowre wouldn't keep using it, now, would they? :p

We have played a few games over the internet with a few friends of mine. It has been really fun! We have this idea of playing the game like we play pen&paper RPGs: everybody talks in-character all the time and talk even though there wouldn't be any action or things going on in the game itself.

There has been some remarkable moments. For example after a tight battle during which the TeamSpeak was filled with shouts and laughter (one of the character is quite a maniac), one of the players used the emote "fall down backwards" and shouted "Aarggh, the floor is slippery from all this blood, be careful". We all started laughing for it was just _so right_. The character was this paladin with full armor set etc. and there he was, falling over and over again while trying to move away from the carcasses.

We wouldn't touch the main campaign though, we played the Dreamcatcher and Shadowlords mod, which were really great!
