Hey. First post here, soz if I'm asking a silly question :p

Was just wondering if there was going to be any voiceovers of the script? Ive only ever played Ultima Ascension, unfortunetly, and realise most of the other Ultima games didnt have voiceovers for the majority of the text, but I was watching clips of some of the old games where the gaurdian or other characters did have voiceovers.

I realise this would require a lot more work for the team and may not even be possible on the morrowind engine, I cant remember there being any voiceovers in that game, though I havent played it in a good year or two. I'm not expecting it to be like Ultima Ascension of course where every line is voiced, but I was just curious.

Btw, Redemption is looking absoluetly FAB!!!! Cannot wait too play it!!!!

If I remember correctly--dragons back me up on this--there's a fully voiced version of Ultima 6 that was released in Japan. From the few excerpts I heard, it was pretty good.

So far as voice-overs go, the only potential character with voice acting might be the Guardian. The motto of the team has always been that either we do it really well or we don't do it at all.

There's also the issue of size. I'd imagine full voiceovers could add a fair bit of size to Redemption. I'd be happy with no voiceovers whatsoever, or just voiceovers for the primary NPC cast (oh please, no lame voiceovers for the Avatar!).

Ok, so here's something no one might really have thought about yet:

We will have to release Redemption one day BUT this doesn't mean that Redemtion has to stay the way we release it.

Redemption can and hopefully will be THE playground for all Ultima fans

Why? Because it will be the first Ultima which comes with a fully functional, somewhat easy to use editor and a plugin system -> the Morrowind Construction Kit.

Yes there are editors for other Ultimas, but it's all a pain in the ass to use and you can't really go too far with it. The guys from "Forgotten World" show that with a lot of patience and time you can even alter Ascension, but imagine you can really make your own mod, your own expansion to a new Ultima.

Redemption might become the core of other Ultima projects, projects even fans who don't have great knowledge in programming etc. can start.

We will also keep expanding Redemption with things we consider usefull and fun and this will mostly include work of people outside of the team.

It's of course too early to talk about this in detail because first we have to finish Redemption, but if you guys have ideas we might not include into the game you can work on them on your own.

In the same way that Lazarus is (due to the Dungeon Siege SDK)? Quite naturally. And that'd be an interesting possibility.

Is Redemption being released as an ESM or ESP?

I don't think a comparison Lazarus - Redemption is valid, but concerning the general development kit idea, yes.

As a master file - so esm. It's the best way for people to add plugins. If someone needs it as esp then there are good tools out there to convert it.

Indeed, the only way I was comparing Lazarus and Redemption is that both (through the respective tools released for the engines they use) are modifiable. And yes, I was suspecting the answer would be ESM.

Don't forget U5:Lazarus & U6Project joint venture, the Project Britannia, that is intented as a platform on which other Ultima remakes can be created.

There are dozens of mods available for Lazarus from graphical enchantments and fixpacks to new items and gameplay tweaks.

Of course, the big difference between those two projects and ours is that in Redemption future projects also have typical Ultima world interaction features which needed a lot of time to be created.

I highly respect and adore what people from Lazarus and the U6 project have done/do, but I can safely say, that none of those two put as much time and effort into creating/harvesting features like smithing, cooking etc. and other features like this which were not included Dungeon Siege / Morrowind ... as we did and for me this is an inegral part of Ultimas past Ultima 5.

But hey, everyone can choose which game he want's to make mods for - there are many differnt tastes out there and there will be something for everyone... for the ones like Luis Castle who think "Ultima is about adventure and not cooking", guys like us, and everyone in between Wink

But if this is going to be about which other Fan-Ultimas could be used as base to make your own Ultima, then you shouldn't forget Withstand the Fury's project either Smile I think he is cooking on something special there and hope it will be finished some day.

Besides all that I think the Morrowind CS is the most powerful one out of those 3 games we all used as base which is the main reason why I think that Redemption could be something special for people who want to mod an Ultima .. but again, all a matter of taste.
