I tested it, like almost every RPG that's being released (since it's my passion) and didn't expect anything, even less than anything: I expected an 1:1 WOW clone with a different setting.

But boy was I wrong. Yes they copied some of the interface elements for WOW players to feel at home right away, but that's about it (and which mmo didn't copy from the ones before... expecially wow itself).

This game has so much charm .. it has a soul .. and you can't say that about many games. This alone should be enough reason for everyone to play it. But it also has great features. The crafting is very complex and fun. The character development is unique... I don't want to go into detail.

Best of all: This setting seems to motivate people to really RP. I never had better RP experiences than in the few hours I testet LOTRO. When you enter the Prancing Pony and see all the players in there jsut enjoying themselves without the stress of questing leveling in their mind while they watch other players play tunes on their guitars/flutes etc.. (yes you can actually play instruments on the keyboard) then you can't help but feel a warm fuzzy feeling inside you Wink

What I also immediatly saw is that it actually looks a lot like Redemption. The color scheme they used in Breeland is very close to what I set up for our game. I love those rich yet not too unrealistic colors.

Give this game a chance (and start as human).

I've been waiting years for an MMO that wasn't just a level grind and emphasized the elements you mentioned.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed level grinding it back in the days when I was volunteer staff for some of Simutronics products. But after awhile I'd just wonder what the point was, even if I played as a Bard with all the festivals and whatnot that came along with that.

I probably won't have the time to play this MMO either, but the thought is fun.

Yes it's all about the quests in LOTRO. You get almost no XP for killings mobs, but lots for the quests .. and there are tons of them.

The deeds and traits system its great too. Basically you can discover deeds and when you fulfill them you get a trait. You can use a limitied number of your traits at the same time. Traits can raise your stats or give you new skills. But since you don't jsut have them all but have to earn (and find) them it's more interesting than similar systems in other mmos.

The crafting system is quite interesting too. Not as complex as ours but better than the average mmo crafting system. You get recipies and build things with the right "ingredients" - so far so good, but you can also have "critical hits" when building or harvesting which gives you a especialyl good version of the item you created. Also you can get trophies from enemies ou killed and use those trophies to add special features to your crafted items to make them really unique.

What!?!

No naked people running around asking for handouts?

No one standing by the bank spamming the screen, asking how to solve a quest?

No one named L33tKiLLaH?

No one standing around talking about their level 895 character over on Final Fantasy XI?

No one trying to sell a slab of bacon for 8 million gold ("It's an uber rare!").

This is no online RPG you speak of! You LIE!
