|

How about letting the player compose his own music, and being able to make it famous around the land? For instance:
Player visits Iolo, player gets question about playing the lute, Iolo writes down the notes played, Iolo asks for the name of the song, player types name, Iolo starts playing song, people hear it, tell their friends (maybe they can have a random opinion too), and the song travel in glory, or shame around Britannia.
I think that would be cool. _________________ "I'm sorry, but what... who are the gargoyles?"

Oh, sorry for not answering that question back then...
Something like that was not planned. I like the genreal idea. I'll write it on my todo list and I'll see what we can do about it. Can't promise anything yet. _________________ Corv Dragon

Yay! A to do list!
I actually only wanted to know if it was possible to make such complex things in a Morrowind mod, but if you put it on the list, that's awsome _________________ "I'm sorry, but what... who are the gargoyles?"

Please don't get me wrong, you won't be able to play notes or really make up a song which wasn't done before.
What we can do is make it seem like that. For example: some songs come with the game which are not used in the game (beside for that). You can "compose" a song with Iolo (by training first or whatever) then the end result will be one of those songs. We could then let people in taverns react to the song according to how much time you invested in learning ... or something like that. So all in all we could make something that *seems like* you composed your own music but of course not something that lets you actually compose music ingame. _________________ Corv Dragon

*wonders if he can make Corv get needlessly complicated with things by suggesting making sounds for each note, which can then be played on an instrument like in U6 and earlier (and perhaps individual key objects on a harpsichord and maybe other instruments)* _________________ -==Thepal==- |

The notes in U6 were random as far as I can remember - like in U7. You couldn't choose what to play. Throwing in random notes when you click on an instrument and actually make the player *record* notes he can play *intentionally* are two completely different things And simply not possible - we don't code a composing program for Redemption, there are quite good ones out there in the market already _________________ Corv Dragon

No, U6 wasn't random. Though the notes did seem to become all the same when I started playing in Windows. But back in the old DOS days you could play songs using the keyboard (6789878767653 actually sounded like Stones)
But I'm not suggesting recording. That would just be... hmm... well... possible I guess. You could just use (many) variables to store what the player played. _________________ -==Thepal==- |

Hm, yeah making a messagebox with notes you can klick on and checking every time what was clicked and then store it in variables (in order) then you could make it play I think. Hm... would sound far less sophisticated than a pre-recorded song but maybe its more fun...

And yes now I remeber how it worked in U6... in U7 you were only able to click on an instrument and it played a random note - in U6 you were able to use the keyboard, thats right. _________________ Corv Dragon

Nah, I'm not suggesting a messagebox for the keys. I'm suggesting you use the individual keys on the harpsichord (aim and press space). _________________ -==Thepal==- |

A Messgebox solution would be useable for more instruments. Making a lute where you can klick on holes would be quite tedious for example... and not possbile since you have to hold more than one hole to get certain notes, and you don't have two crosshairs _________________ Corv Dragon

Even if the instruments only would be able to play random notes, that could be good. They could for instance play a better song, the more you play. As for instance:
1 time trying to play:
Fails
15 times trying to play: Being able to play "Rule britannia" with one finger
And so on. _________________ "I'm sorry, but what... who are the gargoyles?"
