I have some things to add to this...

Wandering ship encounters-...including ship to ship battle and possibly gaining treasure from the other ship...( like you could battle ships in Exodus Ultima 3 and Ultima 4 quest of the avatar I think )

magical additions to weapons- ( you can transmute or make a magic weapon stronger by adding certain elements to it, or make a normal weapon into a magical one )

being able to decorate one's home or ship ( I loved that feature in Ultima Online )

a reputation that changes from town to town depending on what you do to the general populace- be it good or ill deeds ( and they don't forget if it is the same people...I know this might be excessive coding however )

possible random events that can lead to hidden treasures and possible sidequests

Quests of an epic nature that involve at least 5-10 parts in order to complete them ( like trying to forge the Black Sword in Ultima 7 The Silver Seed )

Being able to possibly set up a shop ( merchant ) in your town or home where you reside in order to generate a little extra income while travelling

Having major plot hooks where the story can take one of two or more turns..depending on the action...possibly even one of the main characters could die if the wrong action is taken, or a reward granted if you manage to save their life. ( I really wanted to save Dupre in Ultima 7 part 2::cries:: he was such an honorable and awesome friend....especially after having played through all the others from 3 on....but there was no way to.......)

A possible secret ending where the guardian is destroyed utterly ( God I hate him! ) and a new path opens up to the history of britannia...you might even incorporate this to change the intro of Ultima 10 which will come after, depending on which ending you receive.

I will probably have more, but that is what I can think of for now...thank you for taking consideration.

I thought of a few more::giggles::

A spellmaker where you can raise and lower certain qualities of a spell and it takes a proportionate amount of mana to cast said magic depending on the potency

the ability for you to be able to get in trouble rather than jail or town guards...such as incurring the ire of the assassin's guild or some unsavory organization if you do too many good deeds in the same town which affect a certain group.

weather effects that actually make it necessary for you to change to different types of outfits depending on the climate...making it advantageous to wear fur boots over armored ones for example in a frigid north type setting.

The ability to marry before the closure of either game...and if you get married in 9 you keep the same spouse carried over into ten if you play that same character.

The ability for your spouse or siginificant other to set up a shop or trade in the town which you as the avatar reside....while you are off adventuring, or even better, possibly get him/her enough training ( if they aren't already ) to become some type of adventurer so they can travel with and aid you on your quest directly

The ability to hold a profession yourself...for example, being an armorer you could get certain pieces of mail at reduced prices, or even possibly later in the game, build a set of armor that wouldn't otherwise be available....for an epic quest type thing.

Give Iolo ( or other musician ) the ability to use songs of a magical nature to cause various types of status affects on foes ( like a Dungeons and Dragons bard has the ability to do ) or give bonuses to companions in battle.

Allow party members to train in their various skills by completing certain tasks or meeting key people.... ( like Iolo gaining a new song otherwise unavailable because he trained with a master bard )

This is going to be a fun ideas corner, and I think I will be posting here at least a few times, stay tuned::grins::

You will be able to buy ships and even to build ships and to sail freely with them - this is for sure, but we did not yet think about how (or if) we implement sea battles. We will think about that when we reach this part of development. Then I can tell you if it will be in or not (since I dont want to make promise I cant keep)

The whole wapon making sysstem is REALLY complex. You can be sure that you can do more than you expect now. But dont think that there will be a ton of magic weapons. Expect few but special ones.

You will be able to make your own furniture and decorate your own home or ship. (or whatever you want to decorate Wink ).

The Reputation / karma system is still not done. There will be a Karma system in TNK but for Redemption it could also be that we integrate such NPC reactions without a visible system for the player.

There will be definitely no random events. I always hated such generic stuff on RPGs (like Daggerfall). But you can be sure that there will be enough side quests (designed with love) where you can find treasures etc...

Well this is one of the main design features. Big quests that are all tied into each other. No stupid "Bring me item X from place Y by killing monster Z". And if such a thing then only as a small part of a bigger quest. And since youre talking about smithing a sword. You know the way you did it in U8 and in UO? Forget both. our system allows you to really smith swords and this not by simply clicking on boxes (like UO) - you will be able to melt ore - to mix it to really use a hammer on the metal etc... You will also learn how to make certain magical weapons which require special things and a special "working chain" to create them.

You will be able to create a lot of things - eg also as farmer by getting milk from cows, make cheese or butter out of it and use this again as cooking ingredients, or you become a master smith or carpenter (and again I am not talking about the simple-boring UO systems). You can sell all those things. You can also build your own house etc. But being able to make a shop in a single player game is very difficult to design. Tehre are no other players that come in - so you would have to have NPC customers that come in randomly etc... this is not planned. But I think making things in you own self-decorated home and them bringing it into town to sell it at various shops is fun enough Smile

The story will take turns and yes you can go in a completely different direction. Who will be dying etc is not a topic I want to talk about here now Wink But my design does not allow the player to "accidently" (eg by being to late somewhere) kill story-relevant-characters which would lead him into a dead-end street. You will alsways have control over what you do and when you have a choice you can be sure that it was YOUR choice. and yes those choices will change the story. There is not only 1 way.

There are two endings planned so far that will be definitely in (one being an end that the average Ultima fan will not likely see - soy ou could consider it as a secret ending).

As planned so far the spells will have one effect in one strength Only the chance of succeeding varies. But I will be able to tell you more about the spell system as soon as we work on it intensly.

There wont be guilds you can join like in MW. There will be groups yes - tied in into the story.

Since you can twear things over other things we wont force the payer to change his hard-earned new super armor because its cold Smile

Who said that the game will end? As for romance - we wont tell ANYTHING about it - that should be saved for actual playing the game.

You will have a LOT of interaction with companions and you will have more possibilities of actuall living in the world (away from the main plot) than in any other RPG so far. But we have to set limits since we want to finish the game sometime. Wink

Yes such things will be in. eg. I told you about the smithing system before. And only a skilled amster can make the most advanced armors and weapons.

We will think about this when we script the companions. But dont expect dungeons and Dragons like number-counting-games Wink We have a completely different design.

You will be able to "improe" your companions. All tied into the story. And all with real effects - nt the typical D&D style where stuff sounds cool but does not really affect gameplay.

Riddles: expect the really interesting quests. you will have to combine things etc... quests are not based on fighting.

NO jumping puzzles: of course not, but since its 3D you iwll maybe get to some secret playces by climbing mountains where no Avatar climbed before Wink

Being able to smelt (or have smelted) gold nuggets into gold bars: I have talked about our complex smithing system already.

Random treasure in tree stumps: yes and many other secrets...

A couple of ways to kill Lord British: we wont celebrate the killing of LB. Although there is stuff planned for the evil way.

Residual Black Rock: yes

Key Chain: well, infact not as easy as Xo thinks (if we want tomake that really work - the MW scripting engine has some stumbling blocks)... we cant promise that yet

Ugly People: yes we wont only have models running around

Tresure maps: yes

Here are a couple more:

If there is going to be a Terfin then include the ruins of Blackthorn’s castle.

Include a plot about LB’s bastard child with Nell (perhaps better left for “The New King”)

Include the transposed buildings from SI or at least make reference to them.

Here's something else I thought up...

Underwater travel- It would be nice to see a world in which perhaps you could delve to the depths, perhaps even doing so from your ship and finding sunken treasure or ghostly wrecks of long forgotten galleons!

The ability ( if you get enough reknown and possibly leadership ) to actually get Nystul or Lord British to adventure with you as special members of the party!

Having fun tavern mini-games such as darts or crazy things like mug tossing or drinking competitions or perhaps even a keg roll or ballad singing contest!

The ability to kill off anyone in the game ( for those who want to be evil ) but also be able to make distractions/plausible reasons as to why a murder took place and if you are good enough at debating, get away scott free by pinning the blame on someone else! ( Though I usually don't condone this type of behavior..only when I am playing my sinister darklord : Lady BloodKnight a.k.a Narcissa, the Crimson Queen of Sorrow )

The ability to polymorph into different things like in UO and actually have people's reactions change depending on what you become...maybe even getting attacked by the town guard!

The initiation of a music creator, so that bards can actually make up their own songs while in game and characters such as Iolo actually spell them out in text while they sing!

Hehe..I am having fun with this...I hope I don't bog anyone down to much though with what I am proposing.

All those things are being given their due consideration, but no promises...

My position on Ultima Online is this: It is not a canon Ultima. Our responsibility is to the original series. This is not to say that we will deny UO it's due consideration, but please do not be disappointed when we leave out the 20+ hours of beating on a practice dummy to increase abilities...Wink

I seriously doubt that there will be the ability to kill everyone...
If you had the ability to just murder everyone, who'd be left to advance the plot? hehe...

Anyway, you all keep going...I'm sure there might be some of the features requested that will make the cut...but I'm not telling, and neither is the rest of the team.

Little things might get tossed about here and there, but remember: this project has come a long way since the Titans have taken over development, and we want everyone to lose themselves in our Britannia.
I think I speak for everybody when none of us want this game ruined for all the fans who have been waiting a very long time to have a rightful end to the third Ultima Trilogy.

But that doesn't mean that you all can't keep wishing....Very Happy

In general I can say that there will not be much you were able to do in UO that you can not do in Redemption, only in a more complex and fun way - we wont have this (EA-money-making) System in there that you have to train each skill for months. (Skills are handeled in a completely different way anyway - as I said earlier).

Keep on posting wishes and I promise that we will at least think about every single one. But also keep in mind that we have our design of the game in mind and that we want to make that perfect. Some of the "wished" features here would take either a lot of development time or would simply not fit into our gamedesign. But as I said, keep on posting, but dont expect detailed answers. I dont want us to promise things or but a "maybe" on so many things because this could lead to (unnecessary!) disspointment.

hmmm I wonder how hard would it be to create a Magic Carpet?

from what I read in other posts, U:Redemption will have horses (and not the decorative, festive freak shows from U:A) So would a magic carpet be workable?
I must say, between Ultima V and Ultima VII, that carpet was a helluva good time.

Also wondering about Stonegate...each ultima release it would be different. Sometimes just ruins (Ultima7) sometimes a place for squaters (ultima6) and sometimes a grand building do you guys have a particular plan for it? (sorry if these 2 questions were asked before)

I dont want to tell too much, but yes the carpent is planned along with another flying thing. But we have to test this alot before we can say that its 100% in.

We also think about stonegate, dont worry, but I should not talk too much about details I guess... Wink

Sorry to break into your party, but I'd like to see features which are not essential to the core story and gameplay implemented AFTER the release of the cardinal game. But I believe that the Titans have set their priorities straight.

Alright, I admit, I am still a pessimist so shot me.

BTW, I don't have much time to read the board these days so I just want to tell the Titans that I am really thrilled by all the positive news. Very Happy
