Since the forums have been kinda "reset" I was just wondering about some nostalgic and useful stuff such as the ability to re-acquire the Mystic Arms (actually something I thought could have been used for in-game PK control in UO). Anyone else have fond memories of a party equipped with eight magic bows leveling everything that came against you? Smile

Well, their concept sketches include the Black Sword and Glass Swords, so it stands to reason that all your favourite glowing projectile weapons will be back as well.

But that's just my opinion. We'll see what the team has to say.

Be sure that most of the famous Ultima weapons are back, ... but there are Quests where you can forge your own infamous weapons...

Without Arcadion the Blackrock Sword is just another phat loot.

By the way, will we get the opportunity to meet the old devil again ? I was somehow disappointed by Pagan's Arcadion, he lacked any memorable character traits which I came to love in Ultima 7.

Last but not least: Awesome screenshots ! I knew some of them already but looking at them makes me want to play it right now. The colours look much more like Britannia, which is a good thing because Morrowind's palette wouldn't really fit. But who cares about graphics anyway.

Don't you dare to abondon the game ! Smile

Smile Dont worry, we will finish it. I'm glad you like the shots! Although its possible that you have seen old shots from New Magincia before, it is not possible that you have seen those shots before (of this new version of New Magincia). The shots are completely new, made yesterday. And NM doesnt look anything like it looked before anymore.

I agree that graphics are not really important for a good RPG, its other things that makes it great BUT good graphics support the immersion, the atmosphere, and last but not least Ultima had (at least since U6) always great graphics, for the time it was released).

Now, would I be crucified if I said that there were some design elements in Ascension that I actually liked? The depiction of Magincia and Moonglow felt very fantastic as opposed to the "old England" feel of many games, and I did enjoy those environments very much... even though it was difficult to imagine New Magincia as a bunch of tall towers on a tiny island. Your version has a wonderful, more realistic charm, and the lands are simply breathtaking, but I guess I'm asking if some towns will have a distinct graphic theme?

However, I would really like to see a quality game with a great story become completed rather than have you spending all of your efforts designing all new textures for the different towns. If I have to trade gilded gold for larger, more engrossing townes, I'll take the townes!

You are doing a phenomenal job, team... I wish I had skill to offer your efforts, but mine are limited, as is my time. I admire your work, your vision and your fortitude. You inspire me to follow my own dreams to the next level.

Thank you!

I dont promise too much when I say: You get both!
See, what you see in the screenshots was basically made by me alone, I took the base of the old Redemption New Magincia yes, but all the textures and new design was made while doing the real work, the new master, the new items etc.
What I am trying to say with that is NOT that I think I did an awesome job and I dont say it because I am proud of that - I say it simply because I want to show you: When I alone (in those few days) did this, what do you think will my amazing team together with me do from now on? You can expect the best without having to fear that you will be dissapointed!

And thank you very much for the motivating words Smile

Whose to say it's the same Arcadion? I know this sounds silly, but still...

Remember he is -somewhat- honorable, even if you release him immediately in the Mountains of Freedom he still comes to your aid.

Is it even the same Arcadion? He doesn't remember Serpent Isle, and I don't think he remembers Britannia. He has, however, been to Earth.

But I agree mostly. He was cool. Very Happy

The most popular conclusion for Arcadion in Ultima 8, I've come to realize, is that Pagan follows a different stream of time than Brittania and Serpent Isle. Meaning, the Avatar met Arcadian on Pagan in the past, before he was imprisoned in the mirror and the Avatar met him on the Isle of Fire.

Either that, or the Guardian can phase back in time, somehow, and sent the Avatar to Pagan long ago in the past. This is unlikely though, because if the Guardian had such time traveling powers, he would never make any mistakes as he would just go back in time to fix them.

Of course, there's always the possibility that the Arcadion on Pagan was a different Demon altogether. Despite how the Avatar seemed to recognize him by face before asking his name. (Anyone recall the Avatar asking "Do I know you?")

I haven't played Pagan for about 10 years now, but I think the Avatar recognizes him and asks him about their previous meeting, but Arcadion obviously doesn't know anything and behaves totally different, that is calm and culturered.

And since this is a game and not real world news I think it is pretty save to say that another deamon bearing the name of Arcardion and having the same looks as the U7 one making it into the game is too much coincidence for my taste. The whole appearance of him in Pagan was pure bollocks because it doesn't matter how much you try to twist the storyline into fitting in the timeline it never really feels right, and most often it isn't. Even if time flows different in Pagan and Britannia it is rather clear that Arcadion shouldn't be there anymore because according to the Guardians tauts his invasion (or whatever) happens in the time after The Black Gate and thousands of years after Arcadion's imprisoment, that is, unless time flows in opposite directions in both worlds.

And even it someone finds a good explanation for it, it wouldn't solve the problem that the deamon became so popular because of him being crancy, ill-tempered and highly likeable as a frustrated demon who was much more powerful than the Avatar but was bound to his will.

The way I always saw it, folks is this:
Since Arcadion was summoned and then trapped in the etherial gem, it's quite possible that demons, in their corporeal forms really have no recollection of previous summons...So that would be a good explanation as to how Arcadion could be released on Serpent Isle...He kills the liche and goes back to wherever-it-is-that-he-comes-from. Then he is summoned into Pagan and retains his identity, but none of the memories of the previous encounter...just a nagging familiarity.

Think of it as this: It's no more ridiculous than saying that the Avatar's virginity is restored every time he returns to Britannia, as is told in the Spirit Caves in UVII by the unicorn.
