Guys, please dont mix up the Redemption and the The New King plot. You wont be a Titan of Ether in The New King. |

Were there ever an evil option in any of the official games, I know you could steal and lie in Ultima IV but could you complete it without following the virtues?
In any case, I like the option as more freedom is always better. However, Ultima is one of the few games I probably wouldnt play evil. |

I see it the same way as you. But its a matter of game design. we want to improve the features of Ultima (as the original series also did with every game up to U7) and so its only natural that the player should not be kept from playing the way he wants it and getting the appropriate results. |

No ultima has allowed you to "beat" it by being evil except Ultima VII, but MANY ultimas have allowed you to do evil things.
- In Ultima IV you could use the Skull of Mondain to destroy the cities of Britannia.
- In Ultima V you could tell Blackthorn the mantras to the shrines, thus allowing him to destroy them.
- In Ultima VII you could use the black gate to return to earth, abandoning Britannia to the Guardian.
I can't think of any other seriously evil things you could do (of course you could do bullyish evil stuff like stealing and such in some games) but I'm sure there are others. Essentially, yes, the past Ultimas have allowed you to do fairly evil things. |

I think the only real plot affecting evil deed in Ultima VII would be using the Armageddon spell. If I were the Avatar, I'd have given one of my companions Rudyom's Wand and walked through the gate. No evil deed there, and I'm home safe and sound! No evil there. In fact, that could've been exactly what happened. (I don't rightly recall the ending text for it. I am positive that the Avatar had thought to himself something along the lines "Did the Guardian manage to take Britannia?" as though there was doubt the Guardian could've even come through.)
Of course the inevitable junk between Serpent Isle and the Blackrock dome would go a tad unanswered... |

There was a fan-fiction story related to this somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it up from the Dragon Press.

I read it. It's what first came to mind when I posted that. Give the wand to a companion and run on through... Not exactly sacrificial or anything, but you're going home without performing an evil deed by condemning it.
It's more a case of faith and confidence than evil. |

How about a distinction between karma and reputation ? Your character should be able to perform evil deeds without the public knowing so that people will still treat you nicely even if you secretly poisened their cat the day before. Killing someone in front of many witnesses should give you a huge karma penalty and drop your reputation to the bottom.
Also, I'd like to see people react to the things you do around the world. Whatever you did, certain NPCs should know it and have the ability to comment it. Thus the world would seem much more dynamic and actually alive by creating the illusion that the inhabitants of Britannia are actually talking to each other.
PS: While you are at it, do me a favor and make a remake of Pagan. Thanks ! |

Something like that is planned for The New King. There the struggle between good and evil and the things between is one of the major story parts.

Also in Redemption. Be sure that NPCs are no dump idiots that serve you tea after you killed their cat (dont worry thats just a small! example)

Maybe to you, but to me nothing is more tempting than removing the last stinker from the Guardian Trilogy +2. |

The New King has NOTHING to do with the guardian - its a complete new start for a new triology, you underestimate us here.... _________________ Corv Dragon
