Indeed. There's, in fact, a Dairy Queen in Massachusettes that I refuse to go to due to it's poor quality ice cream. I still go to one in my home town however. |

As an observation:
I think the preparation of the fry oil or some chemical component of it has changed over the years. I remember McDonald's fries of yesteryears tasting like the Burger King fries of today. _________________ Direhaggis

I hate Burger King fries.
In fact there are only two places that create what can even be remotely considered as fries. Them being Wendy's and the 99 Restaurant. Having worked at one, and knowing one whose worked a frier at Burger King, the difference may be the pre-cooking set-up. Burger King fries are, supposedly, not frozen prior to frying. And therefore lose some form of freshness to them. Wendy's does freeze them, conserving a pseudo freshness to it.
No idea if there's much difference in the oils. I know most places just use standard vegetable oil, but things could be different in some places. |

You know who used to have alarmingly good fries, I thought? KFC! They switched fry styles a few years back, and the newer ones were really tasty - had a crispier coating, I think.

Hadn't known that BK just frys the fries without freezing, hm. I gotta agree that Wendy's fries are as good or better.
I like the big KFC fries for that seasoning they use. It's rare I go to KFC, but the fries are always great.
Something else to keep your eye out for if you ever come across it: sweet potato fries. I used to go to this incredible Thailand/Burmese restaurant near my Alma Mater. Just by themselves, these fries are an experience--one you want to repeat. _________________ Direhaggis

SP Fries are really good - there's a Cajun restaurant maybe 10 blocks from my house that serves them. Very...interesting experience, definitely.

Man I wish I could find a place around here that did them.
The closest I can come to a good fry experience nowadays is Ian's pizza, sortof a well known local place here that specializes in unique pie selections. One of them is this steak-and-frie barbeque sauce thing. Literally has fries baked onto the pizza.
My arteries sing and scream simultaneously. _________________ Direhaggis

The KFC is expensive as hell over here. I used to order a box of assorted chicken selection and a a while bucket of mashed potatoes (All the potatoes were for myself, while I'd share chicken with friends and family.) on special occasions. Now I just don't have the income to spend on KFC, with it's ridiculously inflating prices. |
