I was writing a walkthrough for Ultima IX. The game was running just fine. I gave the walkthrough to a friend of mine to test. He took quite a while to get back to me and finally said he couldn't complete it because he was busy with other things. So, I went back to edit the walkthrough and found that the game would not run. It had been a couple of months and I did get a new video card in the mean time. But the game will not run. I've even uninstalled it and reinstalled it using the original discs and it will not run.
Initially, after installation, the game will play the Earth based part of the game. But, it does it without sound. When I step through the moongate the game crashes and gives me the standard Windows error message. After that the game doesn't even boot. I've gone round and round on this one and can't get anything out of it. EA, of course, thinks I'm playing Ultima Online. I've jumped through every hoop they've given me, and still, no go.
So, my last resort is to try and contact fans to find out if they have run into this problem and get a fix for it. I have no idea why the game just quite. Has anyone experienced this problem? Does anyone have a fix for it?
